The National Gallery of Art was created in 1937 for the people of the United States of America by a joint resolution of Congress, accepting the gift of financier and art collector Andrew W. Mellon. The National Gallery of Art serves the United States of America in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of art, at the highest standards.

- Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
- Closed on December 25 and January 1.
