The Tate Museum Britain was created in 1889 when Henry Tate, a sugar refiner, offered his collection of British art to the nation. This lead to the creation of the Tate Museum because the National Gallery lacked the space.
As the collection has grown, the Tate has grown into a family of museums, most importantly Tate Britain and Tate Modern. The Tate Britain displays the national collection of British art from 1500 to the present day. The Tate Modern opened as a separate gallery for international modern and contemporary art in London.

- Closed on 24, 25 and 26 of December.
